Online EMDR Therapy
in Ontario
You may know that an experience is behind you, yet still feel its effects in your reactions, relationships, or the way you see yourself.
EMDR therapy offers a way to work with distressing memories and the beliefs connected to them.
When the past still feels present
Something happens, and suddenly your feelings are much bigger than you expected, even if you can’t quite explain why.
You’ve connected the dots and understand where a pattern comes from, but you still feel stuck in it.
A part of you still carries beliefs like “I’m not good enough,” “I’m not safe,” or “Somehow, this was my fault.”
You notice yourself avoiding reminders, shutting down, or staying on guard.
You’d like to work through what happened, but the thought of revisiting it brings up a very understandable “Do I really want to go there?”
What is EMDR?
EMDR, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is a structured psychotherapy approach that helps us work with painful memories and the feelings and beliefs that have stayed with you.
Together, we slowly bring attention to aspects of a memory while using bilateral stimulation, such as guided eye movements or alternating tapping, with room to pause and check in.
The aim is for the memory to feel less distressing and for unhelpful beliefs to begin to shift and make room for a kinder, more balanced understanding of yourself.
What we can work toward
Feeling less swept away when something brings up an old hurt.
Developing a greater sense of safety in the present.
Working through self-blame and the painful stories you learned to believe about yourself.
Having more choice in how you respond when something touches a tender spot
Feeling more connected to what you need, where your boundaries are, and your sense of worth.
We begin with preparation
If a part of you is thinking, “Do I really have to go there right away?” I want to reassure you that we won’t start by jumping into your most painful memory.
First, we’ll take time to get to know each other, understand what you’re hoping for, and build resources to help you feel grounded and supported. Together, we’ll explore whether EMDR feels like a good fit and establish a pace that honours your needs. There will be room for questions, pauses, and any hesitant parts.
What EMDR work looks like
Understanding and preparing
When people think about EMDR they often envision the bilateral processing phase, but there is so much that happens before this! We start by getting to know your story, what you’re hoping for, and where you feel stuck. We also explore what we might work on, and build resources to help you feel grounded and supported.
Processing, when appropriate
When we agree you’re ready, we’ll bring attention to a memory we’ve chosen together while using bilateral stimulation like eye movement or tapping. I’ll check in with you often, and we will pause so you can share what’s coming up for you.
Closing and following up
Before we finish, we’ll make space to settle and reconnect with the present. We’ll also talk about how to care for yourself afterward and create time during our next session for anything you’ve noticed in between.
My approach to EMDR
For me, therapy begins with the relationship. It is a space where you can feel seen and heard, ask questions, and bring the parts of yourself you might usually keep tucked away.
I have an integrative approach and use EMDR alongside psychodynamic psychotherapy, IFS-informed parts work, and mindful self-compassion to explore your story with curiosity and care.
